    PURPOSE

    Reporting to the President, the Chief Financial Officer participates in key decisions pertaining to financial strategic initiatives.

     

    Provides the direction of the Accounting and Governance functions and teams and provides financial leadership, operational support and strategic decision-making to ensure the successful delivery of these strategies and goals. The Chief Financial Officer will assist the executive team to make effective operational and strategic decisions by providing timely financial information.

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

    Management:

    • Within role as functional leader, will influence and encourage the strategic direction of the company to the managers and staff
    • Champion and support the corporate vision, mission and values in functional management and strategic decision making
    • Provide leadership, instructions, and guidance to managers and staff in achieving the department's goals and objectives
    • Develop initiatives and objectives established to support the attainment of Kitco’s goals & requirements
    • Ensure that head office strategies, initiatives and objectives are implemented and followed within all regional offices.
    • Manage, recruit, train, coach, evaluate, motivate, delegate and monitor staff activities
    • Build a highly competent team
    • Engage and manage outside consultants, including accountants and lawyers
    • Forecast staff requirements and manage resource allocation
    • Make certain that the team adheres to all Kitco policies and procedures
    • Ensure that all dealings are done with the highest level of professionalism with a continued focus on the customer
    • Give both informal and formal feedback to staff. This includes annual performance reviews as well as day-to-day feedback. Give final approval on all department’s employee evaluations
    • Assure proper communication between departments and work collaboratively across departments and foster a culture of continuous improvement

     

    Essential Functions

    Strategy:

    • Assess the organization’s financial performance against the annual budget
    • Oversee financing strategies and activities as well as banking relationships
    • Explore new investment opportunities and provide recommendations on potential returns and risks
    • Act as a strategic business partner to executive leadership team
    • Assess and evaluate financial performance of organization with regard to long term and short term operational goals, budgets and forecasts
    • Identify, acquire and implement systems and reporting to provide critical financial and operational information. Evaluate department to automate processes and increase working efficiency

    Planning and Policy:

    • Coordinate the development and monitoring of budgets
    • Develop financial business plans and forecasts
    • Participate in corporate policy development as a member of the Leadership team
    • Represent Kitco to financial institutions, accountants, government officials, etc.
    • Make recommendations to the President regarding corporate structuring with respect to tax issues across multiple jurisdictions and a diverse product group 

    Accounting and Reporting:

    • Oversee the Accounting team to ensure proper execution and maintenance of all accounting systems and functions
    • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial and management reporting
    • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of filing of tax returns
    • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions, as well as products and services that Kitco develops and provides to customers
    • Review and analyze monthly financials results and make recommendations
    • Implement new corporate structures, create new corporate entities in Canada and Internationally
    • Ensure accurate financial reporting of all international subsidiaries

     

    Governance:

    • Oversee the Compliance team to ensure proper execution and maintenance of all compliance systems and functions
    • Oversee Legal to ensure proper execution and maintenance of all legal systems and functions 

     

    Other responsibilities:

    • Support multiple simultaneous product/service launch projects; provide operational and financial support and insights

     

    Required Skills and Competencies:

    • French and English – both written and spoken
    • Strong leadership and negotiation skills

    • Solid written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities and to work under pressure
    • Strong understanding of business practices
    • Proven analytical ability
    • Results oriented

    Technical Professional Competencies

    • CPA designation
    • Bachelors degree in Commerce or Accounting
    • Master's degree in finance or business will be considered an asset
    • 10+ years of senior financial management experience
    • Experience with multiple company entities, in multiple jurisdictions
    • Experience in a financial or investment institution strongly preferred
    • Solid knowledge of investment products, such as securities, mutual funds
    • Solid knowledge of Canadian and U.S. securities law an asset
    • Outstanding knowledge of GAAP reporting and tax regulations
